Allison Transmission Forges Ahead in Mining Markets Across the World

In 2025, Allison delivered unmatched performance and productivity for Wide Body Mining Dump Operations across several continents.

For mining operations across the globe, every ton moved and every hour of uptime directly drives results, which creates demand for robust and reliable equipment. In 2025, Allison Transmission not just met these demands, but exceeded expectations and solidified its role as an integral partner to OEMs and end ysers in the global wide body mining dump (WBMD) sector. Allison has more than 65 years of experience moving earth, minerals and precious metals around the world, and through strategic innovations and an unwavering commitment to performance, the company has empowered mining operators to navigate the toughest terrains and maximize their productivity.

The 6000 Series™ Elevates Performance for High-Tonnage Hauling

A recent significant milestone was the debut of Allison's 6000 Series™ transmission for wide body dump trucks, unveiled at the bauma CHINA International Trade Fair in November 2024. Specifically, the 6625 WBD transmission has been engineered to meet the rigorous demands of high-performance WBD trucks, offering unparalleled operational efficiency and reduced total cost of ownership.

This solution was developed based on the 6000 Off-Road Series (ORS) transmission, which has a proven track record as a reliable workhorse in mining trucks worldwide. Through close OEM partnership with brands like LiuGong Heavy Machinery Co. Ltd. (LGMG) and stringent field testing in Indonesia, Vietnam and Chile, the Allison 6625 WBD transmission has proven its effectiveness in the WBD truck sector, reaching a maximum gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 136 metric tons.

This launch underscores Allison's commitment to delivering specialized solutions and strategically expanding its market share in off-highway applications around the world.

The Allison TerraTran™ Drives Global WBMD Market Expansion

Building on its legacy of innovation, Allison proudly announced the availability of its TerraTran™ fully automatic transmission in the wide body mining dump market for the very first time in 2025. This strategic expansion was marked by a partnership with Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG), who integrated the TerraTran into their XG110 WBMD trucks. The initial deployment saw 225 trucks equipped with TerraTran delivered and supporting mining operations in Brazil. TerraTran, an uprated variant of the proven Allison 4000 Series™, is purpose-built for the global construction and mining market, with capabilities such as:

  • Maximum power of up to 800 horsepower
  • Supports up to 2230 lb-ft of torque
  • Seven forward and two reverse gears
  • Hardened internal components built to last longer and perform in even the harshest landscapes

"We selected the TerraTran for our WBMD vehicles due to its ability to enhance general vehicle productivity, maneuverability and overall drivability. Our relationship with Allison is built on a foundation of performance and quality, and we trust that their products will continue to deliver for our mining customers."

Allison Expands Footprint in Indian Mining Sector

Allison's commitment to powering global industries is powerfully demonstrated in India, where its transmissions are actively contributing to the country's mining and resource extraction operations. A testament to this impact comes from Shar Projects Private Limited, a key player in Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) projects. Shar Projects has significantly expanded its fleet, opting for SANY and XCMG wide-body dump trucks, each equipped with the robust Allison 4800 fully automatic transmission. Their recent decision to order an additional 100 XCMG WBDs speaks volumes, driven by Allison's consistent reliability and proven performance in India's demanding mining landscape.

"Allison transmissions are an ideal fit for the demanding conditions at MDO sites like Pakur in Jharkhand. They’ve consistently delivered the reliability and performance we need in these environments. With the addition of XCMG WBD trucks to our fleet, we’re confident that Allison’s technology will continue to support our growth and operational excellence across current and future projects."
